We are pattern makers. Without always recognizing the patterns we draw and weave. In our daily lives there are patterns, in our families, we take on old patterns and choose to weave new ones with our children. We form collective patterns in communities we are part of, across friendships and in gathering. The cycle in my body is my own school. It is a pattern I won’t be free from for a few years yet and as I focus my attention on the pattern within it, further details come to light. And as I draw other women’s cycles, I have seen patterns amongst us that give me the humblest glimpse into what might be a Divine pattern, an organic pattern connected to nature. The waxing and waning moon, the tides in and out. The inhale and exhale, the expansion and consolidation of our community lives. Like the grain in a piece of wood that informs us how it wants to be chopped and treated, each element in our hearts and bodies can inform and guide us.
